Content (But not all) is King

The age long blogging adage “Content is King” had trailed the blogosphere since the early part of the millennium and it’s still stimulating debates among content marketers.

Agreed, regular blog updates with great contents is one the SEO best practices. Link building follows this. Of course people, other bloggers will always reference your blog if the contents there are resourceful.

But currently, there are quite a number of exceptions to this notion due to several changes in different search engine algorithms. Yes, content (but not all) is king.

There are current trends you’ll need to consider to better monetize your blogging effort.  Nowadays, some contents will never rank your blog if it’s not tailored to the interest of the readers and/or search engine. Your contents have to be contagious so as to go viral.

Gone are the days that bloggers had to sacrifice their reader’s glee for search engine ranking alone (content farming). Currently, your blog contents must be social driven to be visible as well as ability to drive decisive leads.

Content alone is not king… Why not?

TJ McCue of Forbes once contested the fact that contentalone is not king, and I totally agree with him on the assertion that “without other things like social sharing, link building, content marketing strategies”, a blog can never be successful.

Ok, look at it this way, if your blog is the CASTLE, content is KING, what about every other things, people, equipments that makes the palace to function well? I think, everything that surrounds and touches your blog, not just one ruler, or one person, or one way is paramount for castle’s success.

Apart from craftingcompelling contents for your blog, sharing it in meaningful or relevant ways is also paramount in this era of social media dominance.

Not All contents are King… Why Not?

If (any) content is king, what it means is that anybody can just write any article that does not have a specific audience and post on a blog. Yes! Because content is king, it will rank. No, I disagree.

For a content to be successful, it has to be objective enough to perform its intending marketing goal. Every blog contents should be able to inform a particular audience of interest.

A good blog contents should be able to tell a good story about the idea, service or product intended to portray. It should be search engine friendly and realistic.

Contents that Make your Blog Stand Out

Millions of blogs are created everyday while billions of posts (contents) are dished out into the web every 24 hour. The competition for web ranking becomes so high that only few of them will rank well in search engine, while many will need a huge invested budget for SEO.

So, how do you create what is termed a good blog post?

Here are few traits of a compelling blog post that will supercharge your blog.  Other people may refer to it as the characteristicsof compelling marketing contents.

1. Readability:
It is very important that people visiting your blog can read your post. So many authors emphasises on the post’s (title) topic. But it become more frustrating if after discovering a blog post with great title , only the discover the contents was poorly written.

This knocks off your readers immediately for fear of getting more frustration. Try and understand your audience’s need in terms of language used. Keep it simple and readable.

2. Useful:
Of course, your contents should be able to provide solution to your readers. For instance you are writing on “How to Tie a Tie”. After reading it, your reader should be a able to do exactly that ---  tie a tie. That’s simple.  Try and make sure all your blog contents provide value.

3. Honest:
Being realistic encourages brands in business as well as promoting online reputation. Your blog contents should not mislead your readers. Try and have your readers’ passion on your mind, tell them the truth mostly from what you have experience with.

If you are reviewing any product or service,  write the best you know about the product or service and give them the opportunity to make personal choices whether to subscribe or not.

3. Interactive:
Do not write as a robot. Your blog post should be just like real life conversation. Avoid using irritating or ambiguous words. Make your readers have a human flair in your articles and see your post as information coming from their mentor.

4. Optimized (but not Obnoxious)
Yes, you blog content should be SEO friendly. I mean keyword rich contents with image(s) or infographics. Remember not to irritate your readers by over embedding your keyword. Allow the information to flow.

5. Call to Action
A good marketing driven blog content should have a call to action embedded in it. You can craft a better blog contents if you are able spark discussion among your readers.

Your blog post should be thought provoking which goes a long way to engaging your readers.
